The short answer

The India decision starts with the base.

India should be planned around the right base, not a generic hotel tier. Aman New Delhi is the starting point, then season, room category, and the first three days of movement.

The Golden Triangle — what it actually delivers

Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur cover three distinct India moods in a sequence that takes seven to ten days to do well. Delhi is the entry point: cultural density, design access, and the strongest restaurant scene in the country. Agra has one site that justifies the journey and Oberoi Amarvilas as the only property to stay at. Jaipur is forts, markets, palace heritage, and the beginning of Rajasthan. Most travelers compress this too hard. VIAIVE advises a minimum of two nights at each city.

The experience

Udaipur and Rajasthan beyond the triangle

Udaipur is where the palette shifts from monument access to lake light and palace architecture. Taj Lake Palace is one of the most singular hotel arrivals anywhere — a 1746 marble island reached by boat in the centre of Pichola Lake. Combining it with Leela Palace gives two lake-front nights with distinct moods. Adding SUJÁN Jawai to a Rajasthan itinerary turns a cultural circuit into a wildlife-and-wilderness programme as well.

The specifics

When to travel

October to March is the India window. November through February is the peak for the Golden Triangle — comfortable temperatures, dry skies, and the clearest light. March starts to heat. April through September is summer and monsoon across most of north India. Goa and Kerala have different weather logic and can be visited in different windows.

Golden Triangle route logic

Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur cover three distinct India moods in seven to ten days when done properly. The transfer-fatigue risk is real: compressing the triangle into fewer days multiplies road and rail transfers without adding rest. VIAIVE advises a minimum of two nights per city, with Agra treated as a single-site visit (Oberoi Amarvilas, Taj Mahal view) rather than a multi-day stop.

The experience

Safari and wilderness

SUJÁN Jawai in the Aravalli hills offers leopard sightings without the safari-crowd context of larger reserves, and runs October through March with activity peaking November through February. A wilderness stop should be planned by season first, hotel second — the camps are only worth the detour when the dates align with peak wildlife activity.

The specifics

Wellness

India's wellness properties work best as a deliberate chapter, not an add-on squeezed between palace stops. A dedicated wellness stay needs its own pacing — arriving already fatigued from a compressed Golden Triangle undermines the purpose of the stop.

When not to overmove

The single most common India-planning mistake is treating each city or region as a box to check rather than a place to actually experience. A route that adds Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, and a wildlife camp into ten days will produce transfer fatigue and diminish the palace-hotel experience the itinerary is built around. VIAIVE's advisory role is as much about what to leave out as what to add — a shorter list of well-paced stops outperforms a complete list rushed through.
