Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Thailand

The Camp opened in 2006, marking its 20th year of operation in 2026, and was designed by architect Bill Bensley around the style of a 19th-century explorer camp rather than a conventional resort layout. It was Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts' first all-inclusive property. The camp sits along roughly half a mile of the Ruak River, cloaked in bamboo jungle, with views toward the mountains of Myanmar and Laos.

- Nong Yao: the camp's restaurant, serving Thai, Laotian, and Burmese cooking alongside Western dishes in an open-sided pavilion. - Burma Bar: a cocktail bar with river and elephant-camp views. - Culinary experiences: scheduled add-ons including a candlelit outdoor dinner, an elephant camp dinner, and a wine cellar dinner.

Because the property is all-inclusive, meals, sundowners, and minibar items are built into the package, not charged individually.

Every stay is a two-, three-, or four-night all-inclusive package, not a nightly rate. Inclusions cover accommodations, all meals and beverages, a Golden Triangle boat excursion to a local temple, market, and viewpoint, and at least one spa treatment. Longer packages add a private tasting, a further activity such as a hike or bicycle tour, and a private sundowner. Airport transfers are arranged separately, with meet-and-greet service.

The spa uses open-air salas in the jungle, with treatments drawing on Thai, Laotian, and Burmese practices, including a bamboo massage and hand-and-foot reflexology. Elephant time is part of the standard schedule, not a separate excursion: guests learn elephant etiquette from camp guides, then work with the mahouts who care for the herd, observing bathing and, on some itineraries, walking with the elephants to the river. The camp partners with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, which has rescued and rehomed more than 20 elephants from Thailand's city streets.

The camp sits roughly 45 miles north of downtown Chiang Rai, within a four-hour scenic drive of Chiang Mai. There is no direct road access: guests fly into Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport, are driven about an hour to the Hirannakorn Pier on the Ruak River, then finish with a roughly 15-minute boat ride upriver.

Choose a Golden Triangle Tent when the panoramic outlook is the stay; skip a Bamboo Tent at the Golden Triangle camp if the stay needs a Mekong or panoramic outlook. The camp has 16 total accommodations: 15 tents across three named categories (Bamboo, Mekong, and Golden Triangle) that are all an identical 54 square metres, split by outlook, plus the separate two-bedroom Explorer's Lodge at 232 square metres with its own private infinity pool.
