Hôtel de Crillon occupies a building commissioned in 1758 by King Louis XV and designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It forms one half of the twin Neoclassical facades that flank the Place de la Concorde, the other being the Hôtel de la Marine. Guillaume Coustou is credited with the facade's Corinthian colonnade and sculptural details. Before opening as a hotel in 1909, the building served as a private residence for the family of the Count of Crillon.
