The verdict

Hôtel de Crillon Review: A Rosewood Palace on Place de la Concorde

Hôtel de Crillon delivers a genuinely historic Place de la Concorde address inside a meticulously restored 18th-century building, but the 2017 Rosewood-era renovation traded some of the old hotel's idiosyncratic French formality for a more polished, internationally standardized luxury product. Book it for the architecture, the location, and the scale of the restoration — not for untouched period character.

How we evaluate →

Who should book

In favour

  • Travelers who want a historic, architecturally significant building directly on Place de la Concorde
  • Travelers prioritizing proximity to the Champs-Élysées, Tuileries Garden, and Faubourg Saint-Honoré shopping district
  • Travelers who want a fully renovated, contemporary luxury interior with modern spa and fitness facilities

Worth knowing

  • An untouched, pre-2017 period interior rather than a post-renovation aesthetic
  • A smaller, quieter property away from one of Paris's busiest public squares
  • Published room dimensions or rate information before booking — these are not published on the official site and should be confirmed directly with the hotel

The property

Hôtel de Crillon occupies a building commissioned in 1758 by King Louis XV and designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, forming one half of the twin Neoclassical facades that flank the Place de la Concorde (the other being the Hôtel de la Marine). The facade's Corinthian colonnade and sculptural details are attributed to Guillaume Coustou. The building served as a private residence for the family of the Count of Crillon before opening as a hotel in 1909.

The hotel underwent a four-year renovation and reopened in 2017 under Rosewood Hotels management. The Grands Appartements — the property's most historic suite category — were restored and designed by Karl Lagerfeld as part of that renovation. The address sits directly on Place de la Concorde in Paris's 8th arrondissement, within walking distance of the Champs-Élysées, the Tuileries Garden, and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

The property also operates Sense, A Rosewood Spa, with a pool, sauna, steam rooms, a resting area with a salt wall, a fitness studio, and a hair salon operated by David Lucas.

Rooms and suites overview

The hotel has 78 rooms and 36 suites. Within the suite category, 10 are designated Signature Suites, including the Karl Lagerfeld–designed Grands Appartements. Other named categories include the Premier Suite, Grand Premier Suite, and Family Suites (such as Les Ateliers d'Artistes). Rooms are described by the property as residentially styled, with custom art and marble bathrooms; suites incorporate French design elements with bespoke furnishings and textiles. Specific room and suite square footage is not published on the official site. A separate dedicated page covers room-type detail.

Dining overview

The hotel operates six dining and bar venues: Nonos & Comestibles par Paul Pairet (a French grill concept led by chef Paul Pairet), L'Herbier Secret (a plant-based venue led by chef Alan Taudon), Jardin d'Hiver (all-day dining and afternoon tea, pastry program led by Matthieu Carlin), Butterfly Pâtisserie (a standalone pastry and chocolate boutique), Bar Les Ambassadeurs (cocktails and live music, with a terrace overlooking Place de la Concorde under the building's arcades), and La Cave (a private dining room built around the hotel's wine collection). A separate dedicated page covers dining detail.
