verted into a small residence-hotel and now part of Hadiprana Hospitality alongside sister property Tanah Gajah Resort.

Best for

Couples or small family groups who want a private multi-residence compound with Hadiprana's design and art collection, rather than a standard hotel room.

In short

Dua Dari, a Residence by Hadiprana is a 4-suite property outside Ubud, Bali, on a valley edge above the Petanu River gorge — the former private family holiday home of Indonesian design-house founder Hendra Hadiprana, converted into a small residence-hotel and now part of Hadiprana Hospitality alongside sister property Tanah Gajah Resort.

The verdict

Dua Dari, a Residence by Hadiprana Review: Ubud's 4-Suite Private Estate

Dua Dari trades resort amenities for genuine scale and privacy — at 4 suites with no on-site restaurant, it reads as a private estate that happens to take guests, not a hotel, and that's the entire premise, not a limitation to work around.

How we evaluate →

Who should book

In favour

  • Travelers who want a genuine private-estate feel — this was literally a family holiday home before conversion, not hotel architecture styled to look residential
  • Groups of up to roughly 8 who want to book the entire 4-suite property for exclusive use
  • Anyone drawn to Hendra Hadiprana's original art and antiques collection, sourced across the Indonesian archipelago, displayed in each residence

Worth knowing

  • Travelers who want an on-site restaurant and full resort program — dining and wellness require the shuttle to sister property Tanah Gajah Resort
  • Anyone who wants press-verified detail — this is a small, low-profile property with limited independent coverage beyond one Travel Weekly Australia review
  • Guests who want a single confirmed meaning behind the name 'Dua Dari' — the property's own site and third-party listings give two different explanations

A private residence, not a hotel build

Dua Dari sits on a valley edge above the Petanu River gorge, a short drive outside central Ubud. It was originally the private family holiday home of Hendra Hadiprana, founder of Hadiprana Design — one of Indonesia's oldest architecture and interior consultancies, founded 1958 — later converted into a 4-suite residence-hotel while preserving the original residential structures rather than replacing them. Every element in the compound is designed in identical pairs, per the property's own description of the concept behind its name. Each residence displays Hadiprana's own curated collection of art, antiques, and artefacts from across the Indonesian archipelago.

What's on-site, and what isn't

The property is 4 one-bedroom units built as two paired villas — a Jungle View residence at roughly 80 sqm and a Valley View residence at roughly 90 sqm designed for couples — bookable individually or together for exclusive use of the full estate. There's no on-site restaurant; breakfast is served on the terrace, and dining and wellness are accessed via a complimentary shuttle to sister property Tanah Gajah Resort, also Hadiprana-designed, under the Hadiprana Hospitality brand now led by Hendra Hadiprana's daughter, Puri Hadiprana.

Frequently asked

How many rooms does Dua Dari have?

4 one-bedroom units total, built as two paired villas, each originally a private house later divided into two accommodations. The whole property can be booked for exclusive use, accommodating roughly 8 guests.

Is there a restaurant at Dua Dari?

No on-site restaurant — breakfast is served on the terrace, and dining/wellness are accessed via the sister property, Tanah Gajah Resort, with a complimentary shuttle to central Ubud.

Who is Hadiprana?

Hendra Hadiprana founded Hadiprana Design in 1958, one of Indonesia's oldest architecture and interior design consultancies, and Indonesia's first art gallery in 1962. Dua Dari was his personal family holiday home before conversion into a residence-hotel.
